5.8 Ready to Go!

All current issues have been worked out with the 5.8 trees and isos and it's now ready to go. Torrents should be online soon, and the release is being pushed out to mirrors now. A full announcement will be sent to the CentOS Announce email list once 5.8 has been seeded on enough mirrors and opened up to the public.

5.8 Status as of March 1

We've had an installable OS tree for 5.8 i386 and x86_64 for a couple of days. We've been doing both automated testing and manual installs and updates. There have been a few issues with the ISOs which seem to be mostly sorted out at this point: first, the CD set wasn't generated with the correct number of CDs (now fixed); second, we were unable to do a "base" install from only CD 1 which is something we aim to be able to do. I see reports that the second issue is now fixed as well.

Another issue was with the language display for non-english fonts after installation.

5.8 building and QA underway

We now have full i386 and x86_64 package trees built. These don't include the anaconda/installer bits yet, but at least it means we're through a first build cycle successfully. These are now being pushed to QA for some initial review, and the next step is to do the actual distro builds; that should happen tonight or tomorrow.

What's that sound? Builders fired up for 5.8!

Upstream has released packages for 5.8 and so we're underway with the rebuild process again. Things are just getting started here building the first "base" packages. We'll post a more detailed update once a bit more progress is made.

6.2 QA Update - Dec. 15

6.2 has made a lot of progress this week. Both trees are now finalized (pending successful testing), and install media is all complete. The QA team now needs to do the (hopefully) last round of testing before we'll be ready for release. LiveCD/DVD are still building but should be ready soon.

If we don't find major issues with the current 6.2 trees, then it is likely those will get pushed. Since we had such a quick turn-around time, we are looking at completely skipping the CR repo for 6.1 since we will have the 6.2 packages out very soon anyway.

First CentOS 6.2 Tree and ISOs make it to QA

We have submitted an initial tree and ISO set to QA for testing. There are still a couple packages to build, but the 6.2 packages are 99% complete at this point.

Expect a push of these packages to 6.1 CR in a couple of days after the QA team has a chance to do some basic testing.

Lots of thanks to Karanbir for his work on getting the Build System set up and functioning like a well oiled machine.

This release is looking very good.

6.1 Package Updates and CR Repo

6.1 is in the process of being released. The next steps currently underway are to populate the 6.1/updates with package updates which have happened since the upstream 6.1 release -- note that most/all of these are in the 6.0 Continuous Release ("CR") repo already. Also, while we start work on the 6.2 release, we can start a 6.1 CR repo with the 6.2 packages so that they will be available before the CentOS 6.2 official release.

6.1 Release Wrapping Up - 6.2 work underway!

We are working on wrapping up the 6.1 release and preparing to push it to mirrors. QA has signed off and now we're working on the last minute tasks to get 6.1 officially released.

In other news, a bunch of packages just hit upstream -- looks as though 6.2 is released even though it hasn't been announce yet. We're already working on pulling in those updates and this will be a good test to see if all of our build and testing automation can help us cut down the release turn around time. More news to follow on 6.2 as we get a little further along in the process.

6.1 Update

The QA team continues working on the 6.1 release. We're getting very close to a release as we work through a few remaining issues. I expect that a release will be ready "real soon now", without having an exact date just yet. We've worked through a number of issues and I'm pretty happy with the state of the current 6.1 tree. Hopefully we can get a few more manual tests done in the next couple of days to verify things are as we expect.

One piece of good news is how much the automated testing has improved.

CentOS 6.1 status update & automated QA

Hi people, Just to let you know that all 6.1 packages are now built and ready to produce a 6.1 installable tree (and ISOs). Most of you already know that, as they are (hopefully) using the CR repo, and so are running 6.1 packages (+6.1 updates !) on your 6.0 boxes. The first tree that needed to be generated yesterday isn't bootable and we are working on that.
